Random Filler values?

Postby Princy557 » Tue Mar 17, 2015 1:43 pm

Hi,

Another thing which I would have found use for in the past has been 'filler data' (random).

For example:
Filling a range of cells with random data between 1 and 7000 or 1.2 and 1.9 for testing formulaes.

To include random dates, text, integer and decimal. Well any data required.

Yes I am aware of RAND() and RANDBETWEEN(LowerLimit, UpperLimit)

Any mileage in that as an idea?
Regards

I guess You would like to select a range and then command PlanMaker to fill it with test values via its command bar, right?

The best approach is to create a script and run it where You give input on what type of test data You want and how many cells to fill.

If not my memory fail it exist tools for databases to generate random data.

Kind regards,
Dennis

Although it may not meet Your requirement the following approach can give You some help.

1. Select the start cell and mark all the other cells that will be filled with data.
2. In the formula field enter for instance 2
3. Use the following keyboard command: Ctrl+Shift+Entry
4. The selected range have now the value 2.

Hi Dennis,
OK on suggestions, I'd thought of writing a bit of VB code, but just wondering if it was possible to include in the program.
A nice enhancement for some users.

I don't think my VB skills are up to that anymore. I'm OK writing my own stuff, but not the interface side of things. BasicMaker for me still untested.

By VB I mean BasicMaker.

Actually, I will have some time left next week. I will put a note about this and see if I can create a workable solution with a UI included.
