2016 Steals File Associations

Post by tomos » Wed Apr 22, 2015 11:45 pm

The beta has borked File associations here:

Win.7 x64
I have 2012 Pro installed.
I didnt select any file associations when installing the beta.

*.doc files no longer open at all when double-clicked
*.xls files now open in 2016 by default

I havent tried any other filetypes.

I also though this worth reporting in the context of having also had problems with file associations (which I never reported) the last couple of times I installed 2012 Pro.

This may be to do with previous problems with 2010 -> 2012 file associations.
I have uninstalled 2010: after deselecting file associations in 2016, files kept opening with 2010 (which I have not used in years)
But
I am unable to get files to open by default in 2012 version again.

It's like as if Windows can no longer see the 2012 version:
Right-click file >Open With >Browse to 2012 version > (Select relevant exe file)
it doesnt even show it in the open with dialogue and defaults to 2016 version.

Will have another look tomorrow

Situation is this:

2012 & 2016 are installed:

SoftMaker Office Professional 2012
SoftMaker Office Professional 2016

When I try to launch the 2012 Planmaker.exe - the 2016 version launches. (The other 2012 exe's work as expected.)
Even if I go into the 2012 folder and double-click Planmaker.exe, it's the same story: 2016 launches -
which is really weird - any ideas there ?

My system is otherwise stable.

I could do a system restore - but I think this problem is partially (or maybe mainly) to do with the 2012 install, so I would like to figure it out.

Win.7 x64

I have successfully restored file associations to 2012.

The other problem was this:
Softmaker exe's will not run another version of the same exe is running:
e.g. Planmaker 2016 will not launch if Planmaker 2012 is running (and vice-versa)
-
Is this known and/or intended behaviour?

The problem with the file associations has been reported. It should not occur anymore with the final versions.
