General UI experience

Postby AndreasR » Thu Aug 14, 2014 1:26 pm

My first impressions of the new UI of the HD versions is mixed. So I would like to hear what you other testers think of it!?

So maybe copy and paste the list below and mark your general experiance. Dont hesitate to tick more than one, maybe with a comment
regarding on with device your experiance was made.

[.] Great, I love it without any doubts!!
[.] Super, it really looks like my desktop version right now!
[.] Well, now it looks like my desktop version, but I expected it to be more "touchy" and "responsive"
[.] I like it does not follow system design guides
[.] I do not like it does not follow system design guides
[.] There is far too little space for the content with all the UI around it
[.] Works well with onscreen keyboard
[.] Unusable without external input hardware

[X] Super, it really looks like my desktop version right now!
on 10" tablet, expect it to be even better on 12"

[X] Well, now it looks like my desktop version, but I expected it to be more "touchy" and "responsive"
[.] I like it does not follow system design guides
[X] I do not like it does not follow system design guides
thinking towards android L ;)

[X] There is far too little space for the content with all the UI around it
on a 10" tablet with onscreen keyboard it is still ok in fullscreen mode, but I miss an icon like the keyboard icon upper left corner to toggle fullscreen mode

[.] Works well with onscreen keyboard
only in fullscreen mode more or less

[.] Unusable without external input hardware
--on Samsung S3 i9300-- smartphones not rated any more

The Samsung S3 i9300 is a smartphone. While the software happens to run on it, it is strictly meant for tablets.

Ok that makes sense. ;) Ofcouse it is cool to have it also always at hand on the smartphone! But in future I won't rate the smartphone experience. Does nobody else try the versions on a smartphone?

I've commented elsewhere in a little more detail, but just wanted to say that I don't think it's necessarily a problem that you don't follow the Android guidelines, as long as your own solution works. But it doesn't really. The desktop app itself could do with some fresh design, which then could be a better basis for the Android app.
