Ubuntu 12.04 32bit - Free Office crashes all system

Post by sebatbg » Tue May 07, 2013 10:21 am

Hi there

There's a very weird thing that I've got with Free Office.

The version from Load and Help crashes all my system environment so that I must use hard reset.

That's happening when I click OK after input license data.

The same thing is in Gnome, Xfce and LXDE.

Moreover I've got SoftMaker Office 2008 which was working great on Ubuntu 10.04, but now on 12.04 it crashes all system just like free office...

Anyone knows what should I do?

Maybe there's a system component that should be downgraded to older version as a solution to make Free Office working OK.

Best regards

Sebastian

Did you install FreeOffice via the Shell? You could use the .tgz archive if the .deb file does not installing FreeOfice correctly on your machine.

Please use the following commands in the shell to install/uninstall SoftMaker Office on your machine (please replace the names of the files and installations with the correct ones):

TGZ:
install: tar xzf softmaker-office.tgz
uninstall: our script (uninstallsmoffice)

RPM:
install: rpm -ivh softmaker-office.rpm
uninstall: rpm -e softmaker-office
list all installed packages: rpm -qa
list all installed Softmaker Office packages: rpm -qa | grep softmaker

DEB:
install: dpkg -i softmaker-office.deb
uninstall: dpkg -r softmaker-office
list all installed packages: dpkg --get-selections
list all installed Softmaker Office packages: dpkg --get-selections | grep softmaker

Sven,

I've tried that everything for .deb and .tgz and the result is still the same.

I even discovered that system crashen when I'm trying to paste licence code with RMB.

Any other ideas?

Does it also crash when you type in the license data manually or only when you paste the data?

Manually it crashes when I click OK to confirm the license data.

Well if the same happeds to SMO 2008 thatUbuntu 10.04 was OK. Perhaps some environment components(new one) could make it crash...

Could you tell me:

1. What framework did you use to build 2012 version?
QT or GTK ( what version?)

2. Does SMO use Java?
(OpenJDK , Oracle JDK, or can run on both?)

When installing in terminal it says " Using current xdg-utils" or something like that...

Does it have some in common with graphic environment in SMO?

Best regards

I referred your problem to the developers. Could you please start TextMaker via the shell (textmakerfree -debug) and send us the tmlog.txt from the home folder after it crashed to forum@softmaker.de referring to that thread? Thank you!

To answer your questions:
1. We use neither QT nor GTK
2. We don't use Java.
We use native X Window functions.

Since also SMO 2008 crashes your system, it seems your system has some problems. The logfile might help.
