FreeOffice installation on Windows 8 question

Post by kevvy1908 » Mon Dec 09, 2013 11:44 pm

I have downloaded FreeOffice to my pc on Windows 8.
But then nothing happens - no prompt to run the program, nothing on screen to allow me to get the program to run?
Where is the program?
How do I find it?
Why doesn't it just run?
How do I get it to run under Windows 8?
I know it must be something very simple - just like me;-)

Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

You must find where your browser downloaded the file to (it is called freeofficewindows.exe). Then you simply double-click on it, and the installation starts.

Thank you, but perhaps I have not explained my problem clearly or accurately.
I have downloaded the program and I have double-clicked it in its location.
But after double-clicking it and installing it, nothing is visible to me to make the actual program run.
There is no prompt to run the office suite, no icon visible to me.
Where is it?
How do I make the text program run, for instance?
All I seem to do is double-click the exe file and it tries to re-install the wholesuite again.
How do I get it to run once it has been installed?
Thanks

I have never seen something like this. Maybe the download is incomplete. The downloaded file should have 61,478,408 bytes.

Thanks - downloaded file shows 58.6 MB (61,478,408 bytes)as you stated.
But no prompt is issued, so the exe program runs the install but nothing happens after that.
I do not understand.
Is there an incompatibility issue with Windows 8 ?
Surely I should not have to start looking through the computer for it?
I have done that anyway, so it just seems to install and then vanish?
There isn't much on this computer anyway, because it is fairly new, so I don't see where the program suite is hiding?
Any more suggestions?

Have you looked in the tile view area? (Try moving your cursor to the bottom left hand corner of the screen to get tile view). Win 8 doesn't automatically create an icon on the desktop.

Thanks Lance, but I have already looked at the tile view area, which does not show any reference to Freeoffice - I have scanned across the complete view and see nothing to help me.

Where is the elusive suite of programs?
Is there a "black-hole" on my computer?
The mystery continues ............

Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the c: drive, and look for program files. Find soft maker folder, and enter it. Look for text maker main program, copy it. Navigate to the desktop. Right click and select the make a shortcut option. Repeat for playmaker etc. Use the software...

I have just run the install exe file again and I answered "repair" to the options given to me.
So it seems that the exe prog knows that the suite has been installed already on the computer.
So, I looked again at the Documents folder and found:
"Softmaker" with today's date and time.

So, I double-clicked it and found:
"Bullets"
"Designs 2012"
"Samples"
"Settings"
"Templates 2012"
"biblio.dbf"
"FAQ English"
"hunspell-license"
"Office comparison"
"Readme"
"tmw.dbf"

So, I clicked on "FAQ English" to see if it would tell me how to run the suite of programs.
It prompted me for e-mail address and serial no etc, and after entering these details, it went into the "text" program.
This allowed me to create a document.
But how do I access the rest of the programs?
It seems as if some things are missing from the entries in the folder?

I have tried uninstalling the suite and starting again, but the result seems to be the same.
Any ideas on this, or on what has gone wrong?

Thank you very much Lance.
Have done as you suggested.
Can now access all three progs from the suite on the "tile-view", where I pinned them to "Start".
This all seems a bit "long-winded" - surely this process could be automated?
Thanks again Lance for your help with this.
