Date/time difference in other than EN-format

Post by turfin » Tue Sep 15, 2015 6:17 pm

I have similar problem like this: viewtopic.php?f=210&t=14604
I have Finnish language settings LANG=fi_FI.UTF-8, LC_MESSAGES=C otherwise my computer uses English.

I'd like to calculate difference between two dates, like DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM. If I use English format, everything is easy, I just use CELL-CELL.
With DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM format, I get #Value errors. Is there a workaround?

I've formatted cells with Date/time and selected Language to Finnish. What is interesting, date 15/1/2015 is shown in input field '15/1/2015 and 2/1/2015 is in input field 01/02/2015, day/month reversed and without '

DD/MM/YYYY hh:mm is UK English format (en-GB). I presume you mean US English format (en-US) which is MM/DD/YYYY hh:mm tt (where 'hh' is 12-hour rather than 24-hour, and 'tt' is am/pm).

I'm not surprised. The month cannot be greater than 12, so the '15' in '15/1/2015' is treated as text; in the second example, '2/1/2015' is February 1, 2015, so this is displayed in DD/MM/YYYY format at 01/02/2015.

@Alfred
You are right it is US format, not UK. But do you mean that dates in UK format give proper output? Like 28/9/15 - 18/9/15 is 10?
I have Tools, Options, Language setting Finnish. Plus cells date formatting is Finnish. Am I missing something?

I'd like to know if I can for example nest functions to get desired result or some other way?

@turfin:

I'm not sure, because I haven't used PlanMaker very much, and I can't check right now because I only had it installed on my old PC. However, I'd be surprised if DD/MM/YYYY calculations differ between a Finnish setup and a UK English one (or between Windows, which is what I'm using, and Linux).

I will refer this to our developers and report here as soon as we have a solution.
