"There is not enough memory to start TextMaker"

Postby Patrick » Sun Oct 23, 2011 7:32 am

I have 8gb RAM, running on Windows 7 64-bit. I have never experienced this problem before. I opened a 900kb .doc (saved with Word 2003) in TextMaker, and then saved it from TextMaker as a .docx file. I can open this .docx in Word 2010 without a problem, but when I try to open it in TextMaker again, it gives me the following pop up:

"Insufficient memory
There is not enough memory to start TextMaker."

Why does it do this? It is a fresh install of TextMaker rev596, everything works fine, but when I save a 900kb .doc to docx (it has one small picture in it), it fails to open in TextMaker...

EDIT: I re-saved the .doc file in Word 2003 without the picture, only text, and I still get the same error message when trying to open the docx made by TextMaker. So I don't think it has anything to do with a picture.

EDIT2: I tried some different things with the same original .doc file. I changed the font, took out the picture, and still, when I open it and save it in TextMaker as .docx, I can then open that .docx in Word 2010, but when I try to open it with TextMaker itself again, it will give me the "insufficient memory" error. The program will then hang and nothing happens. But textmaker.exe only takes up less than 10mb of memory in Task Manager. I can send the docx (and original .doc) in if needed.

EDIT3: When I open the docx saved by TextMaker in Word 2010, and then save it from Word 2010 as (no-compat mode) docx, I can open that docx with TextMaker without a problem. But the docx saved by TextMaker itself cannot be opened by TextMaker afterwards. This seems like a legit issue.

PS: I just uploaded the original .doc file and the .docx saved by TextMaker to the forum(at)softmaker.de address normally recommended. As I said in the email, I believe this problem may have something to do with this particular .doc file, because when I convert it to .docx from Word 2010, the 900kb .doc file becomes a 4.5mb .docx file! So maybe it is a file-specific problem, and not a general problem with TextMaker (although it does crash TextMaker and not the 2 versions of Word).

Thanks!

Thank you for the bug report. I can reproduce the problem here and informed the developers.

This problem has been solved and won't occur in the next service pack.

SM Team,

Will you guys roll out another Service Pack for SMO 2010 one of these days, or will it be after 2012 goes final?

Thanks,

Patrick

There will be a final service pack for 2010 for Windows early next year.
