Copy and Paste Object hangs/crashes presentations

Postby jimjutte » Wed Nov 04, 2009 6:34 pm

Hi Folks,

I copy a linked piece of text in a ppt presentation from its first slide, and SM presentations immediately hangs. This can be duplicated. I can't upload the file because it is over 2 MB. The link is "next page" but I don't even get a chance to paste before it hangs. Is there a problem with file size?

Sorry... this is the beta, not 2008. Posted in the wrong area.

Update... I can point out that this ONLY occurs when the text includes fill/line for an object. Once I removed that, it worked fine. So... the workaround is... link ONLY the text... not much of a workaround for now.

Update... I stand corrected. The darn thing just hung again WITH just text in a transparent box as well.

Update... If the text is selected ONLY, then paste it on the next slide, the hypertext WILL transfer without hanging the application. Oddly it carries over the box. So...it works, but there is a little problem associated with it.
Cheers
Jim

Hi Jim,

I moved your post to the correct area.

Can you please upload you file to a filehost like filehost.com and provide us with the download link? I think that should work and would make it easier for us to reproduce that problem.

Thank you!

Hi Sven,

I don't have something like that, but can I "share" the file from something like google docs? You can download it from there as well. I can just then use the main email box to invite you... unless you have another option. Calling it a day shortly, but I'll get it to you tomorrow.
Cheers

Jim

Hi Jim,

you just need to zip the file (right mouse click on it-->Send TO-->Compressed (zipped) Folder and upload the file here: http://www.file-upload.net.
There is an upload button (or "Datei hochladen") and after that the site provide you with an download link where we can download your file. Thats the easiest way to share files I think.

Hi Sven,

It is still 2.6 megs. Is that okay? I'll try now, otherwise, I will test with only a few slides. Maybe it is also related to file size.

Update... nevermind... max is 100 megs... we're good. ;)

So, I commented "Für Sven - SM" Title of the file is Webquest.zip or something like that.
Cheers

Hi Sven,

Just driving to the school, so this is from my phone. I didn't get the link, but if I can't figure out where to find it, I'll just do it again in a couple of hours.
Cheers

Hi Sven,

I'm very sorry, but I forgot to zip it. I assume it should be okay???

http://www.file-upload.net/download-1991739/Webquest.prd.html

I labelled it private. Will you need something in addition to get the file?

Hi Jim,

we need to know exactly what should be copied and where you tried to paste. We can't find any hyperlinked text. Please help (maybe with a screenshot of the source that you marked to copy, and the destination where Presentations hangs).

Thank you :-)

I think I might have removed the "offending" object. Here is all you need to do, create a square or an arrow with the shapes. The background I had, happened to be green. I then put text into the object and added an action "next page". When I tried to copy and paste it, Presentations crashed.
Cheers

Jim
