Excel 2007 limited support

Post by Pedro » Mon Nov 23, 2009 12:03 pm

Hi all

I just downloaded and installed this alternate Office suite.
I tried to load some Office 2007 files and there are 2 major problems:

1) xlsb files are not loaded at all
2) xlsx files are loaded but there is no warning when a file is not completely loaded (e.g. a file with more than 64k lines

(NOTE: there should be a separate sub-forum for comments related to the Office in general)

Can you upload samples here to test? I don't know about the .xlsb, but the xlsx should work in the current 2010 beta.
Cheers
Jim

We don't support .xlsb because it would be yet another filter to implement for not much gain. Does anybody use .xlsb, and why?

We'll check about the overly long files. A warning message should definitely appear.

I obviously do and I think I am someone... You probably mean "does any registered user"...

xlsb files are binary instead of compressed XML. They are extremely efficient and fast when you are loading heavy files with 300.000 lines or more...

Where should I post comments/reports about Office 2010 in general?

Did you mean the setup or problems/suggestions related to all SoftMaker Office applications? Just open a new thread and we will see if we have to move it to the correct location or not

I didn't mean to chide you for using XLSB  and I thank you for the additional info that you prefer it because it's faster. However, I cannot promise XLSB support in the near future.

As for general Office issues, please post them in the TextMaker forum. It's the most-frequented one.

No problem. In the words of a wise man "It's not difficult to get misunderstood on any forum! - The difficult part is trying to word it so you won't be!"

I figured that. But then you should warn users that xlsb are not supported in your "Read and write Excel files seamlessly" section

I think it would make more sense to create a separate Sub-forum, but that is your decision.
