Light font problem: DeJavu Sans

Postby arcfide » Thu Jan 21, 2010 3:07 am

I have been using the Dejavu Sans font on Linux (Slackware64 13.0) and I wanted to try it with SoftMaker's products. Of course, Softmaker sees the font, but it doesn't recognize that there are more weights than just regular, bold, italic, and bold italic. In fact, it thinks that the ExtraLight weight for the font is the regular weight, when the "Book" weight is the appropriate weight. This is easy to see if you compare the font choices on Softmaker with those of Scribus as they relate to Dejavu fonts.

Is there any way to make Softmaker products (this affects TextMaker, PlanMaker, and Presentations) see the numerous weights like Condensed, ExtraLight, Book, &c.?

Hello,

we support only regular/italic/bold/bold-italic.

There are ways to generate fonts so that they work well both with standard applications and with those that handle extended font weights, but this would need to be done by the makers of the DejaVu fonts.

Is there any reason SoftMaker Office programs should use the ExtraLight version of the font instead of, by default, using the Normal font weight (Book) for the Regular selection?
