Not recovering from shutdown

Post by carandol » Wed Oct 08, 2008 5:15 pm

The other day my laptop shut down because the battery had discharged, while I was editing a document in Textmaker beta rev 498. When I reloaded Textmaker, it asked if I wanted to reload the document. I clicked on OK and it came up with an error message saying /tmp/<and a long random file name> not found."

It tried to load the autosaved file but didn't find it.

Does /tmp point to a real hard disk or just to RAM? Is your /tmp folder purged when you reboot?

/tmp is a directory on / and it does indeed to purge on reboot. I'm just going with the default Linux Mint 5 settings for this.

Hello,

I referred that problem to our developers but cannot promise that we can really help in that case. I think it's not a good idea to delete the contents of /tmp on every boot.

I will inform you here as soon as I have more information.

Thanks for the info. It seems that the default with Ubuntu and derivatives is to clear /tmp on reboot, so I imagine a fair number of users will have the same problem, especially since there's no tool in the GUI for changing the settings. OpenOffice.org seems to get round the problem by having its own /tmp folder for backups.

Hello,

the behavior of TextMaker has been changed. In the release version the autosave files will be stored in ~/.softmaker/temp.
