Could you please send us your tmw18tools.dat to forum(at)softmaker.com? This would help us find out what the issue is. You can find the dat file in /home/.softmaker.

Update: 2018 is back to misbehaving. I can reproduce it at will. 1.) Open a document with a TMD extension. 2.) Open another document with a TMDX extension. 3.) The problem has been solved and will not occur anymore with the next service pack for Office 2018. Unfortunately there will be no fix anymore for Office 2016.

I opened your sample file with several revisions of PlanMaker and used the 32bit and the 64bit versions. I was not able to see the bug. Is there a way to reliable reproduce that issue?

Edit: Ok, the update checker does not work with Windows XP but with Windows 10. I reported this to the developers. Thank you!

Please try again. It should work now. I tried it a few seconds ago with rev.768 and the update check worked properly (but of course it hasn't found any new update).
